Nonprofit Success Pack

The Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) is a series of managed packages, installed on top of Salesforce Enterprise Edition. The 6 packages of the NPSP make it easier for you to use Salesforce to manage the core relationships between individual donors, their households, and the companies they work for. Use this group for questions and discussion about the Nonprofit Success Pack.

I received this error this morning via email regarding a user, however, all research I've done says this error happens when Salesforce flags the user as inactive/is deactivated.  This user is not inactive.  I have confirmed his account is active and he can log in.  Any thoughts?

The error is due to an inactive owner on an account - the batch job is trying to update account fields with soft credit summary values.  You should run a report on accounts owned by inactive users.

The past few days we've found that when exporting this report (NPSP Campaign Household Mailing List V2, there may be others too), the data in the file does not match what the report showed.

This specifically happens when we have to do the step-up authentication. It's like some query piece is dropped when the step-auth passes the request back to SF.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any fixes?

Considering how long I have been in the ecosystem, I am actually embarrassed to ask this question. (In my defense, it's not something I look at often). Anyway, when adding a spouse/partner to a Household account, via the Manage Household button, I noticed that after adding the person, and then going to their contact record, on the Account related list, it is NOT showing the Household account, it just shows as "0". On the contact record itself, the related Account record is there, it's just not showing up on the Account related list.

Why would that be?

The contacts are not marked as private, I don't have any dup rules that would prevent creation, etc. So I am a bit baffled.

If a contact/account isn't found in the lookup of the gift entry screen, but is actually existing in Salesforce already, where do I configure the matching rules so that this match occurs when the dry run/processing happens.

I am offered matching choices when doing an NPSP Data Import batch from that screen, but the options don't show as part of the Process Batch process for Gift Entry. Which rules is it using? Do I have any control over them?

Go to Setup > Custom Settings > "Manage" next to "Data Import Settings" > Edit. In the "Contact Matching Rule" field, you can type your desired matching behavior. The valid values, I. believe, are:

    • Firstname,Lastname,Email
    • Lastname,Email
    • Firstname,Email
    • Firstname,Lastname
    • Email
    • Firstname,Lastname,Phone
    • Contact Duplicate Rules

We're looking at starting to record all income and expenditure into Salesforce so that we can have a full overview of our overall business position. Is anyone else recording expenses in salesforce? Just wondering how you manage this if so?

Current considerations:

- Expense Opportunity Record Type?

- Different campaign structure/campaign record type for expenditure?

- Same campaign but make the opportunity amount a negative?

Any thoughts, tips, advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

    Good morning -

We do use Salesforce NPSP to record money out (distributions, grants, etc) as well as funds in (donations.)

For money out, we have the Funding Request Object.  It is in the Outbound Funds application. We can record money requests, which program they belong to (scholarships or general requests or...), how they're disbursed (object), and the GAU (object for which fund the money comes from.) Reports can be created in the usual way.(screen shot below.)

I do not know if the Outbound Funds is standard in any NPSP, or if it was part of a custom package for us.

    I hope that helped.

We have been working on some updates on our Salesforce NPSP and now my gear icon at the top right of my screen is gone. Many step-by-step directions have you start there and I cannot seem to figure out how to reset it back. Any help?

    Hello @Venumadhav Sreeram

    the opportunity owner seems inactive.

Try to see if you do not have a flow / apex code retrieving the opportunity owner, and enrich it to consider the case where this owner is inactive (take another one, change it, catch the error and do something else...)

When using the gift entry feature, a user (who's not a system admin) can't edit the Donor Organization Account and Donor Contact lookups. All other fields are editable, and if they use the single gift entry on an existing account/contact, they can create a gift. It's just the lookup isn't editable. As far as I know, they have full access to all NPSP data import and batch fields. What permission is missing?

Gift entry - Existing Donor Organization Account and Donor Contact lookups not editable

@Jessica Kwok Did support have you open Developer Tools in your browser as the page loaded? That helped me when I was having an issue getting fields in the soft credit bundle to appear for a client. Turned out, believe it or not, to be a standard page layout issue for Opportunity Contact Role. It was the developer console of the browser (in Chrome View > Developer > Developer Tools) that helped me see that.

We’d like to create a process where a manager can designate a specific person to approve requests on their behalf while they are out on PTO. Ideally, the delegation would be limited to a defined period and clearly specify which types of requests the delegate is authorized to approve.

What is the best way to structure this process?

These are the requirements:

  • The manager should be able to select who the delegated approver.
  • The manger should be able to add a start and end dates for the delegation.
  • The manger can choose which requests the delegate is authorized to approve.
  • The process should prevent unauthorized or conflicting approvals.
  • The process should automatically ending the delegation when the manager returns.

For the start/end date tracking - you might be able to create a public calendar in SF for ppl to enter their vacation time and have your approval flows reference that calendar.

If flows can't reference the calendar object, then you might be able to do the calendaring using a custom object instead.

For the authoriziations / conflicts, that something you'll have to design and build in your approval flows.

Hi there,

How do your fundraisers rank donors and prospects into tiers — and how much of it have you managed to automate?

We're on Salesforce for a while but want a tiering system (capacity + relationship) that requires as little ongoing manual effort from fundraisers as possible. Our fundraisers know their donors well, so the knowledge exists — the challenge is capturing it without making rating records a chore, and keeping tiers current as new contacts come in.

Thanks!
