Hi! I’m trying to embed a Tableau Cloud dashboard in Salesforce so that users can view the dashboard without having to authenticate separately with Tableau.

From what I understand, using Tableau Embedding + Tableau View requires SSO configuration with a dedicated user account, which I don’t currently have available.

Is there a way to configure authentication using an external application or Tableau Connected App so that users can access the embedded Tableau dashboard without having to reauthenticate with Tableau Cloud?

Any guidance on the recommended approach would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Diego, that OAuth 2.0 trust connected app is the path I'd point Kathy to for the standard Tableau LWC. Once Tableau Embedding is set up in Salesforce and Enable Single Sign-On is on, the component handles the handshake. She doesn't need a separate token service for that route.

Kathy, the trusted URL and the site ID get the viz onto the page. Each person still needs their own Tableau Cloud user with access to the workbook. The connected app doesn't create those users.

I would like to see the Schedule tab added to Tableau Cloud similar to what is in Server. I would also like to be able to name our schedules as we can in server.

Hi All,

Could you please advise how we can retrieve the device_type field from the “Who Has Seen This View”

data in Tableau Cloud?

We would like to identify whether each view was accessed from a desktop, tablet, or mobile device. The http_user_agent field is available in the Viz Load Times data source, but we would like to confirm whether device_type can be directly accessed or exposed from the “Who Has Seen This View” data.

Could you please share the required steps, data source, or permissions needed to retrieve this field?

Best regards,

Raju

I’m curious about this as well. Since http_user_agent is already available in the Viz Load Times data, it would be useful to know whether Tableau Cloud exposes a processed device_type field directly or if it needs to be derived separately.

    Hello Keiji,

Thank you for your help. I resolved the issue.

Cause: The workbook used the Tableau Table Viz Extension, which my Tableau Desktop version doesn't support. The extension adds a <worksheet-extension> manifest and a <referenced-extensions> block to the .twb, and Desktop's schema validation rejects both.

    Solution:

    1. Open the .twb file in VS Code.
    2. Delete the <referenced-extensions> block and the <manifest> block containing <worksheet-extension>, including everything inside them (both are near the end of the file).
    3. Reopen the workbook in Tableau Desktop.
    4. On the affected sheet, set the mark type to Automatic and rebuild it.

    Thanks again for your support.

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a Tableau dashboard where users select a Mission ID using a filter dropdown.

Some Mission IDs are milestone-based, while others are not.

I have a field [Milestone Rank], and the condition for a milestone-based Mission ID is:

COUNTD([Milestone Rank]) > 0

I have a separate dashboard section containing several milestone-related charts. What I want is:

  •  If the selected Mission ID is milestone-based → show the milestone section.
  •  If the selected Mission ID is not milestone-based → completely hide the milestone section.
  •  When the section is hidden, I also want the empty space to collapse, rather than leaving a blank area.
  •  The Mission ID list comes from the database, so new Mission IDs can be added over time.
  •  Ideally, I want to keep the Mission ID as a filter dropdown, rather than requiring the user to manually change another Show/Hide parameter.

I tried using Dynamic Zone Visibility, but Tableau does not show my Boolean calculated field as an available value for “Control visibility using value.”

I also tried a Boolean parameter for Show/Hide, but then the user has to manually change the parameter every time they select a different Mission ID, which isn't practical.

Is there a way to make Dynamic Zone Visibility respond automatically to the selected Mission ID while keeping the Mission ID as a filter?

If not, what would be the recommended Tableau approach for achieving:

Mission ID filter → detect whether milestone exists → automatically show/hide a dashboard zone → collapse the space when hidden?

Thanks!

Chris's Set and FIXED LOD approach looks like the right solution.

One additional dashboard-layout point: if the milestone section contains multiple worksheets, place all of them inside a single tiled layout container and apply Dynamic Zone Visibility to that container rather than to each worksheet individually.

That way, when the Boolean calculation returns False, the entire milestone section is hidden and the surrounding tiled content can use the released space.

When establishing the connection between Tableau and our Collibra DEV environment, As a Tableau administrator provided a User ID and token that successfully ingested both Tableau Worksheets and Tableau Data Attributes.

Recently, we were issued a new User ID and token to configure the connection for our Collibra Dev & PROD environment. Following this change, Collibra is no longer able to fetch worksheets or data attributes. Any thoughts?

It looks like the token change may have affected the permissions or API access settings between Tableau and Collibra. Checking the user roles, connected app settings, and API access permissions on both sides could help identify the issue. Hope you find the cause soon.

I have 2 instances of Tableau Bridge running as a container in Kubernetes. Sporadically these instances stop to work but the ontainer itself is still in running state and I just get the information via email that jobs did not run correctly.

And in the portal under Bridges I see that instances are not up anymore.

But I didn't find an API so far that allows me to get this information which might allow me to create some wrappers restarting the affected bridge instance.

And the second (better) option would be to have som eliveness endpoint in the bridge container which I could monitor standardwise via Kubernetes.

Is such an endpoint available in this huge Tableau Bridge container or any way to check health of a running container?

    @Ralf Karge

Hi, you may use the Platform Data API (Activity Log)

    https://www.salesforce.com/plus/experience/tableau_conference_2026/series/learning_at_tableau_conference_2026/episode/episode-s1e14

Take into account that if you don't have Tableau Enterprise or a better licensing (Tableau Plus, Tableau Bundle) then this won't work for you. Why? The latency of the info is daily when using the Tableau defaul licensing:

    https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/activity_log_overview.htm

If you are working with Tableau Enterprise, you may take a look of the following events:

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but feel free to give it a try. If the text field contains spaces, you could, for example, insert a line break whenever a space appears after the 10th character. You may want to tweak the threshold depending on the nature of your data.

    <sample & calc>

For this sample field, I've created it by concatenating two fields into a single field.Hi, I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but feel free to give it a try.

Our Tableau Cloud site is configured with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) SSO, and all user authentication is federated. We do not allow local Tableau usernames/passwords.

We are attempting to integrate Tableau Cloud with Zenoptics using Tableau REST APIs. Zenoptics requires authentication via a Personal Access Token (PAT).

To generate a PAT, Tableau requires a user account to sign in. However:

Our Azure / Entra ID administrators have confirmed that they cannot create a non-interactive “service account” with a traditional username and password.

All Entra ID accounts are SSO-only and require interactive authentication.

Therefore, there is no way to log in as a headless service account to generate or manage a PAT.

Questions

What is the recommended architecture for API-based integrations (such as Zenoptics) when Tableau Cloud uses Entra ID–only authentication?

Is Tableau’s official guidance to:

Use a licensed Entra ID user dedicated as a service principal (human account, non-MFA, non-expiring), or

Use Connected Apps / OAuth instead of PATs, or

Some other Tableau-supported approach?

If PATs are still required, how does Tableau recommend customers securely create and rotate PATs when non-interactive service accounts are not possible in Entra ID?

Please advise on the supported and secure best practice for this integration pattern in Tableau Cloud with Entra ID SSO enforced.

This sounds like the main issue is the lack of a non-interactive Tableau account when Entra SSO is enforced. I’d also check whether Connected Apps or OAuth can be used with Zenoptics instead of relying on a PAT. It would be good to get confirmation from Tableau on the supported setup for this exact SSO configuration.

As of today, we have been seeing this message on a pop-up box, on Tableau Cloud when we open it: "2026.3 Deployment to Production will start in two weeks".

Do you know what this deployment is to do with?

Does anybody know if this effects to any enterprise level changes? Should end users need to be concerned with the reports and data?
